Research Data Advisory Service

Research data management (RDM) refers to all activities relating to the generation, processing, archiving and publication of data. Research data includes all types of scientific information on which scientific research is based. This includes, for example, measurement results, secondary analyses, visualizations, models, study surveys or questionnaires. Ensuring that all the important requirements of third-party funding bodies and aspects of RDM are kept in mind can be challenging. Therefore, TIB offers support services in cooperation with LUH, among others.

Services for researchers at Leibniz Universität Hannover

Leibniz Universität Hannover operates the Research Data Service Team together with the TIB. In addition to the advisory service, LUH also provides infrastructure for research data through Leibniz Universität IT Services, such as the LUH research data repository. A wide range of information and materials can be accessed at the Leibniz University's research data management website.

Services for researchers and RDM professionals at universities and higher education institutions in Lower Saxony

As part of the Lower Saxony State Initiative for Research Data Management, TIB also provides support throughout Lower Saxony with advisory and information services for RDM:

  • Scientists from research institutions in Lower Saxony:
    • Support in data handling ( if applicable in cooperation with the local services)
    • Provision of appropriate specialist services
  • RDM employees who support researchers with RDM at a local level or develop this kind of RDM service:
    • Support/feedback on planned measures to develop and implement RDM services in their own institution
    • Peer exchange on advisory services, workshops, etc.
  • Conceptualization and provision of workshops for researchers and RDM staff on research data management

Services for researchers and RDM professionals at the TIB and at non-university research institutions

TIB supports its own researchers as well as national researchers and RDM professionals at Leibniz institutions and other non-university research institutions with advisory and information services related to RDM. This includes services to support data handling, the provision of subject-specific services and assistance with the publication of data.

National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI)

Another important element in subject-specific advisory services and data handling are the domain-specific NFDI consortia, who are responsible for developing standards and tools for data handling from the discipline-specific communities, implementing them in the subject departments and providing them with advice.

TIB has been significantly involved in the development of the NFDI from the very beginning and participates in several NFDI consortia, including the subject specific consortium for chemistry (NFDI4Chem), the consortium for research data on material and immaterial cultural heritage (NFDI4Culture), the National Research Data Infrastructure for the Engineering Sciences (NFDI4ING) and numerous NFDI-wide basic services (Base4NFDI).
