IT teams often grapple with managing the full lifecycle of their infrastructure. The process is often fragmented—a battle fought with different tools across Day 0 provisioning, Day 1 configuration and complex Day 2 management. This creates inconsistency, increases risk and slows down innovation. During AnsibleFest 2025’s keynote, Sathish Balakrishnan, VP and GM of Ansible BU at Red Hat, and Armon Dadgar, CTO and co-founder of HashiCorp, discussed new integrations through Ansible Content Collections and Terraform providers between Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and HashiCorp Terraform.

Benefits of an integrated approach

An integrated approach between Ansible Automation Platform and HashiCorp Terraform Enterprise or HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP) Terraform provides a framework to deliver end-to-end lifecycle management of infrastructure resources.

  • Day 0: provisioning with Terraform. Employ Terraform's Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approach to declaratively provision and deploy cloud infrastructure.
  • Day 1: configuration with Ansible Automation Platform. Following provisioning, Ansible Automation Platform configures systems, applies settings and deploys applications to support consistency and compliance.
  • Day 2 and beyond: operational management. Terraform can detect infrastructure drift, while Ansible Automation Platform handles configuration management, patching and application workflows at scale for ongoing operations.

An Ansible Automation Platform and HashiCorp Terraform integration reduces manual effort and risk, leading to more reliable and scalable infrastructure. Don’t just take our word for it, Wells Fargo expressed the same optimism when discussing Ansible Automation Platform and Terraform Enterprise in the Red Hat Summit 2025 keynote

Ansible Automation Platform and HashiCorp Vault

Another aspect of integration is the value of using Ansible Automation Platform with HashiCorp Vault for security-focused automation. This integration:

  • Takes advantage of Vault's capabilities for secret rotation and time-bound access to support secure automation workflows.
  • Centralizes secret management for hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Automates secret management, enabling consistent compliance across all environments.

Roadmap alignment and future joint integrations

There are more features to come from this integration. Future product plans include continued integrations between Ansible Automation Platform and HashiCorp Terraform Enterprise or HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP) Terraform. Ansible Automation Platform will focus on enabling workflow templates to call Terraform Enterprise. This will enable consistent integration of Terraform deployments within Ansible Automation Platform workflows. There will also be platform-level configuration of HashiCorp Terraform and Vault instances and ready-to-use configuration content for Vault. These features will make it easier for customers to start using Terraform and Vault with Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat OpenShift. Additionally, HashiCorp plans to extend Terraform Enterprise to call Ansible Automation Platform. This will include post-provisioning hooks to trigger Ansible Automation Platform configurations and workflow templates to call Ansible Automation Platform after plan execution. These integration efforts will provide users with direct control over all automation capabilities.

Bringing it all together

The collaboration between Red Hat and HashiCorp signifies a step forward in the world of infrastructure automation. By bringing together the strengths of Ansible Automation Platform, Terraform Enterprise and Vault, the stage is set for efficient, security-focused and scalable lifecycle management. This integrative approach promises to streamline operations, enhance security and empower organizations to manage their infrastructure with greater ease and confidence.
