Scammers are changing the caller ID in Microsoft Teams to make calls look like they’re coming from actual health system employees.
At Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center, staffers have received calls that initially appeared to come from a supervisor, but after they answered, the display number or name changed.
“Scammers may push for immediate action such as installing software, accessing files, or sending payments, claiming it’s a time-sensitive issue or emergency,” the health system said June 10.
The health system warns employees to end conversations immediately if something feels odd, and instead try reaching out to the person via email or a Teams message. Also, avoid downloading software or clicking links during unsolicited calls and chats or disclosing personal or financial information over the phone.
