Amazon is overhauling its health division, Amazon Health Services, in a move aimed at simplifying its structure, CNBC reported June 13.

Here are six things to know:

  1. In a statement to CNBC, Amazon said it is dividing Amazon Health Services into six new business units.

  2. These six groups — referred to by the company as “pillars” — will each be led by a designated executive. One Medical Clinical Care Delivery will be led by Andrew Diamond, MD, PhD, while One Medical Clinical Operations and Performance will be overseen by Suzanne Hansen. John Singerling will head Amazon Health Services Strategic Growth and Network Development. Prakash Bulusu will lead Amazon Health Services Store, Tech and Marketing. Kim Otte will oversee Amazon Health Services Compliance, and John Love will lead Amazon Health Services Pharmacy Services.

  3. The reorganization has not resulted in any layoffs, according to the company.

  4. This news comes after several high-level executives have departed in recent months, including Vin Gupta, MD, former chief medical officer of Amazon Pharmacy (left in February), and Trent Green, former CEO of One Medical (left in April).

  5. Two additional departures — Aaron Martin, vice president of healthcare, and Sunita Mishra, MD, chief medical officer of Amazon Health Services — had not previously been reported. Mr. Martin wrote in a memo to staffers, according to CNBC, that he is staying on temporarily to assist with the transition.

  6. Amazon said it does not plan to appoint a new CEO to lead One Medical following Mr. Green’s departure.
