About approvals in team-managed service projects

Some requests might need approval before they can continue along their workflow. For example, a manager might approve leave requests, or an IT manager might approve new system accounts. Approvers don't need a Jira Service Management license to approve requests — but they must be users of the service project.

Here's how approvals fit into a request type’s workflow:

  1. A customer raises a request and it becomes a work item for your team to work on.

  2. The work item transitions along its workflow until it reaches a status that needs approval to proceed.

  3. The approver is notified by email that they need to approve the work item.

  4. The approver approves or declines.

  5. If approval conditions are met, the work item transitions to the next status in its workflow.
